4C Gains Global Momentum with New Funding and Senior Hires
London – September 21, 2016 — Today, 4C (www.4Cinsights.com), a global leader in data science and media technology, has announced the appointment of three new senior hires and the completion of $26 million in Series C financing. The funding will strengthen the company’s global presence and meet the growing demand for its unique data science and multi-screen software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering.
The investment was led by Kayne Partners, the growth private equity group of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, L.P., an alternative investment firm managing over $23 billion in assets. All previous investors, including Jump Capital in the US and Prime Ventures in the Netherlands, participated in the round.
4C will channel these funds to deepen its market presence through geographic and product expansion with the development of more affinity-based targeting applications across TV, video and social media. 4C will also build out additional publishers and channels within its SaaS media activation platform and recruit more technical and sales talent to sustain its pace of innovation and near-triple-digit year-over-year growth. Prior to this Series C round, 4C had raised a cumulative $11.6 million over the past three years.
This funding is complemented with the recent appointments of Anupam Gupta as Chief Product Officer, based in the US and, in the UK, Josh Linforth and Jacques Turner have joined to expand 4C’s European business.
Gupta will lead 4C’s product team to develop new products, which will build on the company’s vast reservoir of TV and social media data sets. 4C’s SaaS portfolio currently offers marketers the opportunity to work with both social media and TV analytics to build more effective campaigns. For two decades, Gupta has developed new products, including SaaS solutions, and led strategy and growth planning for several companies. In his previous leadership roles at Vubiquity, Gupta was responsible for the product strategy, roadmap and marketing of its technology platform and business. Prior to Vubiquity, Gupta was the President and CEO of advertising platform Mixpo. He started his career at Microsoft.
Linforth and Turner will report to Andy Nobbs, Head of EMEA Sales. They will be responsible for developing client and partner relations across EMEA to enable 4C solutions to become key references in the advertising ecosystem. Linforth brings extensive experience to the role, including driving UK growth in advanced advertising products at TVTY. Prior to 4C, Turner was at Maxus, where he managed the strategy, planning and buying of the agency’s B2B accounts. He has previous experience at GroupM and MEC in Sydney.
“We are on a mission to help marketers and broadcasters leverage the convergence of TV and social media,” said Lance Neuhauser, CEO of 4C. “Our recent funding and new starters will help accelerate the pace of innovation and client growth at 4C. Global expansion is a key priority as put our solutions in the hands of brands and agencies to drive results for their organisations.”
The addition of Gupta, Linforth and Turner and Series C are the latest in a series of significant moves from 4C, including:
- 4C announced the appointment of Kevin Kearns as Chief Revenue Officer
- 4C became an official Snapchat partner, which will give brands the ability to leverage 4C technology to activate Snap Ads later this year and access the 100+ million daily active users on the Snapchat platform
- 4C recently unveiled 4C University, providing training in its product suite and delivering institutional knowledge across TV and social media for brands, agencies, and media owners
- In May, 4C announced a series of partnerships including 20th Television to quantify the effectiveness of brand integrations, Groupe M6 to monitor broadcast assets, Turner to target TV audiences utilizing social data, and WideOrbit to activate social data through programmatic TV.
4C entered the EMEA market through the acquisition of Teletrax in July 2015. 4C products are built on more than 30 years of computational science research by Founder and Chief Scientist, Dr. Alok Choudhary. Its patented technology also leverages hardware and intellectual property acquired through Civolution and Royal Philips Electronics.
