An Award-winning IBC: 2013 success for Platform clients

Platform PR is celebrating its most successful IBC to date. Our annual trip to Amsterdam was as busy as ever with our clients collectively holding over 250 meetings with key industry media and analysts at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre. We are delighted that our hard work has been recognized with a number of our clients going onto pick up prestigious awards at IBC and recording fantastic post-show media coverage.

Grass Valley and Ericsson had products recognised in TVB Europe’s annual ‘Best of IBC’ shortlist by a panel of the magazine’s writers, as well as journalists from the IBC Daily. The products were selected for their high quality and innovation from the thousands on display by more than 1,400 exhibitors at the largest trade show for the broadcasting industry in Europe.

The Ericsson AVP 4000 encoder was honoured in the ‘Links, Transmission and Delivery’ category. The encoder, which is powered by Ericsson’s first ever professional video chip and can be easily upgraded between codecs and resolutions via software, produces unrivalled picture quality in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC in both SD and HD. Grass Valley received two awards in the ‘Production and Infrastructure’ category – for EDIUS 7, the company’s fast and versatile real time editing software and for GV Director, the multipurpose nonlinear live production system.

There was more good news as Ericsson, Grass Valley and Tvinci triumphed at the CSI Product of the Year Awards– one of the most comprehensive and competitive technology awards in the world – which rewards technical and product marketing excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting, mobile and IPTV sectors.

Ericsson’s innovative LTE Broadcast solution saw off tough competition to win the ‘Best mobile technology or service’ award for its solution for broadcast video over LTE Networks. The solution consists of three new technology standards: HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding); MPEG DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) and eMBMS (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service).

Grass Valley came away with the ‘Best workflow/asset management/automation solution’ award which recognises their outstanding achievement in the field of storing, organising and retrieving electronic digital assets.

Tvinci were named ‘Best TV Everywhere/multi-screen video’ winners for their OTT 2.0 platform, as deployed by MediaCorp in Singapore. The platform was recognised for its ability to offer users linear content, catch-up TV and VOD on multiple devices.

The ConnectedWorld.TV Awards 2013 rounded off a successful trip for Platform clients at a gala dinner award ceremony at Amsterdam’s Okura Hotel on the penultimate night of IBC. Genius Digital picked up the ‘Innovation Award’ which acknowledged the underlying technologies and standards of the company which enabled breakthrough products and services.

Civolution’s SyncNow triumphed in the ‘Best TAM Product of the Year’ category recognising their excellence for advances in content security and test and measurement.

David Bramley, Platform PR Director, enthused about this year’s IBC awards success saying:

“IBC 2013 reminded me how exciting it is to work for many of the hottest players in one of the fastest moving technology sectors. Innovation is at the heart of the industry right now – broadcasters are looking to OTT, pure OTT plays are making content, everyone’s deploying multiscreen and at the same time we are all wondering when and if ultra HD will become a major consumer proposition. The performance of our customers in winning so many of the ‘gongs’ given out at IBC was recognition for their expertise and hard work.  We look forward to ensuring that our clients continue to gain recognition for the innovation that makes video content such an exciting market to be a part of.”
