LAS VEGAS, January 5, 2015 — DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, today announced that its DivX® OmniView™ solution enables TV manufacturers to stream and bundle 4K content with TVs and other 4K-ready retail devices. To date, DivX OmniView has enabled some of the world’s major TV vendors, including LG Electronics, to offer 4K movies from a major Hollywood studio through a hard drive bundled with its TVs. At CES, the DivX booth (South Hall #31650) will demonstrate how DivX OmniView enables operators to deliver high-quality Video-On-Demand (VoD) and secure live content up to 4K through OTT streaming, as well as bundled on a hard-drive.
“Before a piece of 4K content can be made available to consumers, content owners require strict security to be met, so we’re delighted that operators are already bundling 4K movies with TVs protected by DivX® DRM, a key component of our DivX® OmniView™ solution,” said DivX President and CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili. “There is a noticeable discrepancy between 4K-ready TVs sold at reasonable prices in retail and little 4K content available on Pay-TV or commercial OTT services. This lack of 4K content is driving TV manufacturers and retailers to provide consumers with 4K content bundles, either on a hard-drive or through streamed and VoD services. The DivX OmniView solution offers all the elements needed to enable manufacturers and retailers to meet the demand for 4K content from consumers that have a bought a 4K TV, who would otherwise be stuck with watching HD video on their amazing new 4K screens,” he added.
DivX OmniView enables secure video distribution and playback across multiple screens, including Android, iOS, Web, PCs, Smart TVs and set-top boxes. With support for video up to 4K and advanced streaming features, such as multi-language subtitles, chapter points and smooth trick play, DivX enables Over-The-Top (OTT) services to differentiate their experience as well as reduce operating costs using HEVC and DASH. In addition, DivX has been approved by the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) for use with UltraViolet™ services. With a base of more than 1 billion DivX Certified® devices, the DivX OmniView solution enables content providers and operators to extend the reach of their services to multiple screens and broaden their subscriber base.
