Ericsson Media Solutions wins Streaming Media ‘Best of NAB 2018’ Award for mixing SDR to HDR content in live broadcasting
Ericsson Media Solutions, today announced that its MediaFirst Video Processing Encoding Live solution, which allows service providers to take control of the display of both SDR and HDR content within the same live broadcast service, has been honored with this year’s ‘Best of NAB 2018’ Award by Streaming Media. The award recognizes the most significant releases and announcements for the online video and streaming industries during NAB Show 2018 in Las Vegas.
The Ericsson MediaFirst Video Processing solution is a suite of applications which address the full media processing requirements of TV Service Providers. Through a new dynamic range conversion mode enabled on MediaFirst Video Processing Live encoder, Ericsson Media Solutions’ real-time intelligent tone mapping algorithms enables service providers to take control of the display of both SDR and HDR content within the same live broadcast service. This approach empowers service providers to maintain the quality of experience, regardless of the content type, rather than working around the behavior of consumer electronics.
Matthew Goldman, Senior Vice President Technology, TV and Media, Ericsson Media Solutions, says: “This award is a testament to our commitment to transform television by envisioning unique experiences that can be delivered everywhere for everyone. Through MediaFirst Encoding Live, we are enabling service providers to mix SDR content with HDR content in live broadcasting through intelligent tone mapping techniques, which have been fine tuned to create a more consistent and balanced viewing experience by circumventing the need for consumer TVs to change modes. We are delighted to be presented with this prestigious award, which reinforces our desire to deliver a consistent HDR viewing experience to our customers worldwide.”
